Oh boy. The holiday season is officially over. We ate, we drank, we traveled; we did it all. Chances are your skin is showing some of the signs of jolly extravagance that comes with the holidays and you’re likely ready to ramp up your routine.

This year, I invite you to adopt a holistic, high-vibe approach to self-care for a balanced mind and beautiful skin. Give yourself the headspace to breathe and realign with your heart. Then, plant the seeds for the next 362 days with clear intentions.

I love the blank slate of a calendar year to serve as a grounding “reset” period. Instead of jumping into stereotypical New Year’s resolutions, consider instead a time to relax and release. Use this “detox” to say goodbye to 2018, acknowledge all that you learned, and sink into calming well-being through self-care—and to clean out those pores as well.

After the hype of the holiday spirit and seeing loved ones, the come-down period can be tough, especially for those entering another few months of winter. But a detox of both mind and body is just the kick of invigoration to get through the post-holiday slump. Skin is an excellent metaphor to our physical and mental well-being and both need to be in high-vibe shape before setting intentions for the new year. Cleanse first, then magic can happen.

Here is my annual New Year’s ritual that I’ve come to look forward to with each year. Remember that like with your skin, be gentle with yourself.

An important yet overlooked element to any detox is to luxuriate in some quiet time. I carve out time to set my intentions and book it into my calendar— just like everything else. For those times that I’ve made space, I meditate and take long hikes to clear my mind for the year ahead. Everyone’s method will be different, but you’ll know that it’s working when the intention resonates in your heart.

For those who are more spontaneous, I also have found that mini-pauses throughout the day can be immensely beneficial as long as the space is created and intention is cast. Whether sipping a cup of tea by the fireplace or rubbing essential oils on my wrists and breathing deeply, I use any micro-opportunity to invite a fresh perspective and reset.

It’s important to reflect on the past and dream of the future and to provide yourself the headspace to think. Type A people will love the new year to set goals, but I find that for my friends with all personalities, thinking about goals, whether two weeks, two months, or two years away, helps serve as a guiding light for the new adventures in store.

As you likely know by now, I am a firm believer of beauty from within. While I am vegan throughout the year, during my detox time I kick things into high gear. This means that I cut all sugar, drink more water than I think I need, and load up on detoxifying fruits and veggies. Green juices, warming soups, and extra vegetables help clear and brighten my skin. Unlike fad detoxes, keeping things very clean, and very simple will be transformative and is easier to sustain throughout the year. I am French after all, so the mantra “everything in moderation” works best, as a little dark chocolate helps my spirits :)

Wash away 2018 with our Green Ceremony Cleanser. It feels transformative and tranquil, ideal for setting the stage of a detox period. When we created this cleanser, the intention was to create a luxurious feeling product that would allow for some pause in our busy lives, so take your time with cleansing, and really work and massage the cleanser in.

Up next is to slough away the dead skin cells. Use our Jojoba Beads Exfoliant to gently lift away any build up. Without weekly exfoliation, dead skin can get trapped amongst the layers of the dermis and clog pores, or block products. So it is imperative to exfoliate in order to allow your skincare to work effectively. Use once or twice a week depending on your skin type.

After the skin has been prepared, nourish with serums to hydrate and target any specific concerns. I like to mix in Pf+O Dull Skin Serum Concentrate for added radiance. Follow with a moisturizer to seal in all of the goodness and protect from the elements.

At night, I like to unwind and restore a few times a week with a Synergie[4] Immediate Skin Perfecting Beauty Masque. The four elements serve to detox, peel, brighten and firm, all of which suit the New Years intention quite nicely. The mask will be a deeper dive of the healthy habits listed above, with an intensive restoration of skin for a brighter glow.

Cheers to 2019! Wishing you a radiant new year!
