Eliminate your acne in 3 easy steps

Before we talk about how to keep your breakouts at bay once and for all, let’s talk about what pimples are and what causes them...
What are pimples? Pimples are known as small pustules or papules- small skin lesions or inflammations of the skin.
What causes pimples? They occur when overactive oil glands produce too much oil, which mix with dead skin cells and ultimately clog pores. Bacteria (specifically P.acnes) breeds within the plugged pore, which is what causes the visible zits you see on the surface. The causes of this can vary- stress, pollution, lack of sleep, hormonal fluctuations, inadequate cleansing habits, a poor diet, etc.
How do you treat and heal pimples? At any stage of the pimple, you should leave it alone and only use a spot treatment when necessary. With time, the infection heals on it own, leaving a scab until the dead cells of it dissolve it into a dark mark (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.) Over time, healthy cells began to replace the dark cells of the scar and your skin returns to its fresh, clear complexion.

1. Cleanse your way to clear skin: You cannot spell CLEAR SKIN without CLEANSER (okay maybe you can) but we promise cleansing your skin is the most important step of your pimple- free skincare regimen. Make sure you thoroughly wash your face morning + night with a gentle, yet effective cleanser that won't alter your skin’s natural ph. All the toxins you’ve accumulated during the day, including makeup and dirt, need to be eliminated so your skin can regenerate overnight.
2. Exfoliate properly: Exfoliating, when done right, is one of the most effective pimple-fighting techniques. When you exfoliate, you slough off dead skin cells that jam pores, prevent oxygen from entering and cause bacteria growth. Exfoliate 2-3x per week to keep your pores healthy and clear, allowing for your treatments to absorb more deeply.
3. Spot treat active blemishes: When or if you do get a pimple, NEVER touch or pop it!
