Priscilla Woolworth, Eco Goddess, Mom, & Author of LOLA Lots of Love Always
Named “New Green Pioneer” in Time Magazine, Priscilla Woolworth is a dear friend, huge inspiration, and the ultimate sustainable lifestyle queen. From collecting wildflower seeds and exploring treasures from Earth itself as a young girl, Priscilla now runs an eco-friendly almanac and store, and authored LOLA Lots of Love Always, a book for young women about how to adopt a sustainable lifestyle and make healthy choices.
I am so excited for you all to get to know her, her book, and what the first step is toward adopting a sustainable lifestyle!
Tell Odacité beauty lovers a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to start your own ecocentric General Store and Almanac.
Hello Odacité beauty lovers! Ten years ago, when my daughters were in their teens, I couldn’t find good resources that had toxin free, organic, and practical products I needed. I became inspired by the chain store my family had started generations ago (Woolworth’s) and felt that a green version which offered people and planet loving alternatives to conventional products would be a positive way of bringing my legacy to a new generation.
The Almanac was launched a few months after my store went live. It offered a platform to inspire and educate consumers, so that they would become informed about the healthier alternatives available on the market, whether from my store or somewhere else. This platform evolved to include other areas I’m interested in, all relating to sustainable living and the environment, with a specific focus on the people who are doing wonderful things to better the planet whether in- but not limited to- design, art, film, and books. If we don’t know who they are, and what they are doing, how can we support the important work they are doing.
All of us here at Odacité HQ are huge fans of your book LOLA (Lots Of Love Always). What was your favorite chapter to write and why?
Thank you so much! LOLA is a very positive and empowering book. Since we are talking about beauty, the chapter about Natural Beauty has valuable information about beauty products and about how each of us can make informed decisions that are not only good for our health but also good for the planet. This chapter was particularly important because when I was younger, I never thought about what was in the beauty products and just bought and used whatever was in the stores. I had no idea that they were made with so many chemicals that are harmful to our health. I wish I had been as informed then as I am now. I think it’s really important that we use our buying power to support wonderful toxin-free brands like Odacité to become more widely available. Everyone on the planet deserves healthy toxin-free products.
What is one of the first pieces of advice you typically give to young women who are just beginning their journey towards adopting a sustainable lifestyle?
Make conscious choices that reduce our use of natural resources and ideally serve to protect them. Turn your purchasing power into a powerful tool for change by buying organically grown fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and use toxin-free body-care products and household cleaners. And refuse plastic whenever you can to reduce your plastic footprint.
One of the common ways people are exposed to toxic chemicals is while cleaning. Could you share with us your favorite recipe for a homemade multipurpose cleaner?
The recipe I use for an all-purpose spray is so easy and fabulous. I start with an empty glass spray bottle, and add 1 cup of white vinegar, and then fill the bottle almost to the top with water. I then add 10 drops of tea tree oil and 10 drops of a favorite essential oil like orange, lavender or rose geranium. Shake it up and ready to use! The vinegar and tea tree oil both have great antibacterial qualities, and the essential oils give the solution a pleasant scent.
Last but not least, could you tell our readers what your all-time favorite Odacité product is and how you use it in your skincare regime :-)
Odacité is such a wonderful skincare line and I am so grateful that it exists. Taking care of what me put on our skin has never been more important because the beauty market is flooded with products full of harmful chemicals. Which is not the case with Odacité’, which I am a big fan of. I haven’t used every single product yet but my favorites are the Jojoba Beads Exfoliant, the Beautiful Day Moisturizer and the Eye Cream. They smell heavenly, and feel so good when I put them on. I can feel my skin responding and loving it! I feel good too using products that are good for my health.
